Welcome to the website of the Institute of
Human Nutrition at the University of Southampton
The
Institute of Human Nutrition is an internationally
recognised centre of excellence for training and
research in nutrition. This
site is intended to provide information about the
Institute of Human Nutrition - its' activities, staff
and news.
About the Institute
The Institute was established by the
University in 1991 to foster a co-ordinated programme of
research, education, training and service activities in
human nutrition.
The Institute takes advantage of creative abilities
across disciplines through a structure which integrates
research, education and service in the basic, clinical
and applied sciences.
It serves as a focus for people in a wide range of
academic, clinical or community areas with a particular
interest in nutritionally-related aspects of health and
disease.
Although administered within the University as part of
the Division of Developmental Origins of Health &
Disease, the activities of the Institute extend beyond
the responsibilities of the DOHAD.
Our
Mission
To enable good health in people of all ages and the
rapid return to health for those in whom any disease is
affected by nutrition.
This will be achieved by:
Understanding how the human body responds or adapts
to protect health in the face of changes in the
environment through our research.
Translating this understanding into the provision of
clinical care and public health.
Providing health professionals with the training and
skills to have a direct impact on people's health
and ensure that appropriate care is available is
available to everyone - by making a difference and
doing simple things well
